Jet (gemstone)

Okay kiddo, so have you ever heard of a jet gemstone? It's a really cool stone that comes in a shiny black color.

Now, this gemstone is special because it's actually formed from something called a fossil. Do you know what a fossil is? It's the remains or impression of a prehistoric organism that lived a long time ago.

In the case of jet, it's made from the remains of trees that lived millions of years ago. These trees were buried underground and over time, the pressure and heat from the earth turned them into coal. But sometimes, the coal would undergo even more pressure and heat, which would cause it to transform into jet.

Jet has been used for thousands of years to make things like jewelry, ornaments, and even tools. People love it because of its shiny black color and its ability to be polished to a high shine.

So, even though jet is a gemstone, it's actually formed from a fossil. Cool, huh?
