Jewish is a word that describes people who practice a religion that started a very very long time ago in a place now called Israel. Jewish people believe in one God, who they call Yahweh, and follow lots of rules and traditions that have been passed down for thousands of years. They read from a special book called the Torah, which tells the story of how they were chosen by Yahweh to be his special people. Jewish people also celebrate lots of holidays throughout the year, like Hanukkah and Passover. They might go to a special building called a synagogue to pray and worship together, and some Jewish people also wear special clothes or keep their hair and beards a certain way. Being Jewish is not just about religion, it's also about being part of a cultural and ethnic group with a rich history and tradition.
