Jizya

Jizya is a word used in Islamic history to describe a type of tax that non-Muslim people had to pay to Muslim rulers. Imagine that you and your friends are playing a game, and one friend decides to be the king or queen. That friend might ask everyone to give them some of their toys or candy as a tax to show that they are in charge. When Muslim leaders were in charge, they would ask non-Muslim citizens to pay them a tax called jizya, which was like giving them toys or candy.

The people who paid jizya were usually Christians, Jews, or followers of other religions, who lived in Muslim states. The leaders who collected jizya were supposed to use it to protect the citizens and make sure they were safe. It was important to make sure that everyone was safe and happy, just like it is important to share your toys and candy with your friends so that everyone can have fun.

Jizya was not meant to be a way of punishing non-Muslim people or making them feel inferior in any way. Instead, it was a way of making sure that everyone was treated fairly and that everyone had to participate in running the country together. So, just like how you and your friends work together to play a game and make sure it is fair, Muslim leaders and non-Muslim citizens had to work together to make sure that everything was good for everyone.
