John Henryism

John Henryism is a term which describes the behavior of people who try to overcome hardships by working hard and taking on a lot of responsibility. It is named after the famous story of John Henry, who was a steel-driving man who was said to have worked so hard he died from exhaustion. In the same way, people who have John Henryism take on huge amounts of work and responsibility even when it puts them at risk for their health or wellbeing.
