Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives

Okay, so there are some grown-ups called the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives. They are like a big gang of smart people who work together to decide if certain things can be added to our food to make them tastier, last longer, or even look better.

Before they decide if a new food additive is safe to use, they study everything they can about it. They check if it can cause any harm to our bodies or if it can cause any other problems. They even do special tests to see if it can cause any sickness or disease.

Once they have studied everything they can, they come together to talk about what they found. They argue and debate until they can all agree on whether or not the new food additive is safe.

This way they can help make sure that the food we eat is safe, yummy, and good for our bodies.
