Okay, so imagine we’re playing a game where you have a toy airplane and you want to get it to a special place called an airfield. That’s like a big parking lot for planes.
Well, back a long time ago in June of 1942, some people who weren’t playing a game but were actually fighting in a big war wanted to stop some other people from using their airfields on an island called Crete.
These fighters were called Nazis and they were trying to take over a lot of places. But there were some other people called Allies who didn’t want them to do that.
So one day, the Nazis sent a lot of airplanes to drop bombs on the airfields in Crete. They wanted to damage the buildings and planes in the airfield so that the Allies couldn’t use them anymore.
The Allies were surprised and caught off guard when the Nazis attacked. A lot of their stuff was destroyed, and many people were hurt or killed. But the Allies fought back and tried to defend themselves.
At the end of the day, the Nazis were able to damage some of the airfields, but not all of them. And the Allies were still able to use some of the undamaged airfields to continue fighting back against the Nazis. It was a scary day for everyone, but it taught them to always be ready for attacks and to never give up.
