ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Jury questionnaire

Okay, let me explain to you what a jury questionnaire is.

Imagine you and your friends love playing games and one day you decide to play a game where you have to pick the best player in your team. Would you just randomly pick someone or would you want to know more about that person's skills, strengths, and weaknesses before you choose them?

Just like that, when something goes to court and a jury (people who decide if someone is guilty or not) is needed, the people who might become a part of the jury are asked to fill out a questionnaire. This questionnaire asks the potential jurors different questions about themselves and their views.

The reason for this is to make sure that a fair and impartial (means not picking sides) jury is selected. It helps the lawyers and judges to learn more about the prospective jurors in order to eliminate any possible bias or conflict of interest.

So, just like before you pick the best player in your game, the court wants to ensure they are picking the right jurors for a fair trial. That's what the jury questionnaire is all about, asking people questions to know if they will be an impartial juror.
