ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Kaep

"Kaep" is a shortened way of saying "Kaepernick". Colin Kaepernick is a man who used to play football in the United States. He got famous for doing something called taking a knee during the national anthem before games.

Now, the national anthem is a song that is played at the beginning of a lot of important events in the United States. It's kind of like a special song that reminds people of their country and some people get really emotional when they hear it.

But when Kaepernick was playing football, he decided to take a knee during the national anthem to protest against something called police brutality. Police brutality is when people who work for the police hurt or treat other people unfairly because of their skin color or background.

So when Kaepernick took a knee, some people liked it because they agreed with what he was protesting against, but other people didn't like it because they thought he was being disrespectful to the national anthem and the United States.

Eventually, Kaepernick stopped playing football and became like a spokesperson for people who want things to change in the United States. He talks about things like police brutality and racism and encourages people to educate themselves and speak out against these things.
