Kahal Zur Israel Synagogue

Okay kiddo, imagine you and your family are Jewish and you go to a special place called a synagogue to pray and learn more about your religion. Well, Kahal Zur Israel is a very important synagogue in Recife, Brazil that was built over 400 years ago!

Back then, your ancestors were being forced to leave Portugal and Spain because they were Jewish. Some of these people sailed all the way to Brazil and decided to settle in Recife. They built Kahal Zur Israel so they could continue to practice their religion and have a special place to come together.

The synagogue is really beautiful with big windows and fancy decorations, but it has gone through some tough times over the years. Sometimes, the people who didn't like Jews would try to hurt them or take their things, so the synagogue had to be rebuilt a few times.

Today, Kahal Zur Israel is a symbol of the strength and courage of the Jewish people. It's a place where they can come together, celebrate important events like weddings and holidays, and remember their ancestors who came before them.
