Karate at the Summer Olympics

Karate is a kind of fighting sport where people use their arms and legs to hit their opponent. It's like playing tag with your hands and feet, but you're trying to touch the other person with your hands and feet. Some people practice karate as a fun hobby, but others compete against other people in tournaments to try and be the best.

Every four years, many different sports come together for a big competition called the Olympics. The best athletes from all around the world come to one place to compete against each other. Some of the sports you might have heard of are basketball, soccer, swimming, and gymnastics.

In the 2020 Olympics, which were postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic, karate was added as a new sport for people to watch and cheer for. It was the first time karate has ever been in the Olympics! The Olympics are a special event, and when karate was included, it was a big deal for fans of the sport. So just like how you might have a favorite soccer or basketball team, people now have favorite karate athletes to root for in the Olympics.
