ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Karl Mannheim

Karl Mannheim was a German-Jewish sociologist who lived from 1893 to 1947. He was famous for writing books and essays about how people's beliefs, values and ideas shape the way that society works. He also wrote about how social, economic, and political power can shape the way people think and act. He believed that understanding the relationship between social structures and individuals could help societies become more fair and just. In his work he also argued that inequality between different groups of people should be reduced. He tried to show how social and economic systems create inequality and he wanted to find ways to improve life for all people.
