Karl von Terzaghi

Karl Von Terzaghi was a very smart man who studied dirt and rocks. He liked to learn about what happens to dirt and rocks underground when we build things like buildings or bridges on top of them. He found out that we need to make sure the dirt and rocks can hold up the things we build on top of them or else they might fall down. He also discovered ways to test the dirt and rocks to see if they are strong enough to hold up buildings or bridges. Because of his discoveries, people can now build sturdy and safe structures without worrying that they will fall down.
