Okay kiddo, let me explain the Kashmir conflict to you.
Kashmir is a region located in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, between India and Pakistan. It's a very beautiful place, with mountains, lakes, and rivers. But for a long time, there has been a dispute over who should govern Kashmir.
You see, when India became independent from British rule in 1947, it was split into two countries: India and Pakistan. Kashmir was supposed to decide which country it wanted to be a part of. But the decision wasn't easy because Kashmir was a Muslim-majority area ruled by a Hindu king.
Pakistan wanted Kashmir to join them because of the Muslim population, while India wanted Kashmir to be a part of India because of its location and resources. In the end, the king chose to stay independent, which made both India and Pakistan unhappy.
In 1947, tensions between India and Pakistan over Kashmir led to the first Indo-Pakistani War. The war ended with a ceasefire and a promise that Kashmir would have a referendum to decide its fate, that has never happened though. India and Pakistan have since fought two more wars over Kashmir, in 1965 and 1999.
Today, the conflict remains unresolved. India and Pakistan both claim ownership of Kashmir and they have different priorities for the area. India wants to integrate it into their country as a state, while Pakistan wants it to become an independent country or a part of Pakistan. This has led to violence and human rights violations in the region, with both sides accusing each other of terrorism and aggression.
It's a very complicated situation, but basically, India and Pakistan can't agree on who should govern Kashmir and neither side is willing to back down. Hopefully, one day, they will find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
