ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Kelly Flinn

Kelly Flinn was a woman who wanted to be a pilot in the United States Air Force. She worked very hard and became one of the first female pilots to fly fighter jets. However, she got into some trouble because she fell in love with a man who was also in the Air Force, but they were not allowed to be together because he was married and she was breaking the rules.

Kelly Flinn didn't want to follow the rules, so she lied about her relationship and tried to hide it from her bosses. When the Air Force found out, they punished her by taking away her job and telling her she had to leave the Air Force.

This made a lot of people really angry, because they thought that the punishment was too harsh and that Kelly Flinn was being treated unfairly just because she was a woman. Some people thought that the Air Force was trying to set an example and warn other women not to break the rules, but other people thought that the punishment was sexist and unfair.

In the end, Kelly Flinn left the Air Force and became a commercial pilot instead. But a lot of people still talk about her story and what it says about women in the military and how they are treated differently than men.
