Kelso Dunes

Kelso Dunes are big piles of sand in the middle of the desert. Imagine being at the beach, but instead of water, there's just sand all around you. These dunes are way bigger than any sandcastle you've made and they're also really special because they make a funny noise when you climb up them.

The sand in Kelso Dunes is made up of tiny pieces of rock that have been broken down over a long time. The wind blows these tiny pieces of sand into big piles and that's how the dunes are formed. They can be as tall as a 10-story building!

When you climb up Kelso Dunes, you might hear a funny noise that sounds like a low-pitched rumble. This is because the sand particles are rubbing together as they slide down the dunes. Scientists call it "booming" and it's a really cool sound!

Kelso Dunes are also an important habitat for many desert animals, like snakes, lizards, and insects. So it's important to be respectful of the environment when you visit and not disturb any of the wildlife.
