ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Kettle logic

Well, imagine that you are a kid and your mom asks you if you broke the vase in the living room. You know that you did not break it, but you feel a little nervous because the evidence is pointing at you.

So, instead of telling the truth right away, you start using "kettle logic." This means that you give different reasons for why you can't be the one who broke the vase.

For example, you might say that you were in your room the whole time, that you were playing with your toys, or that you didn't even know there was a vase in the living room.

All these reasons might seem like they make sense, but your mom knows that they don't add up. She knows that you are using kettle logic to try to get out of trouble.

So, the next time something like this happens, remember that it's better to tell the truth from the beginning. It might be scary, but it's always the right thing to do!
