ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Kilogram-force

A kilogram-force is a way to measure how strong something is pushing or pulling. It's like when you push a toy car across the floor, you're using a certain amount of force to make it move, but we use a different kind of measurement to describe that force.

A kilogram-force is the amount of force that gravity uses to push down on something that weighs one kilogram. Imagine you have a big bag of apples that weighs one kilogram. If you put that bag on a scale, it will show that the weight is one kilogram, but that doesn't tell us how much force it's exerting.

If you lift the bag of apples, you're using some force to overcome the pull of gravity. Similarly, if you drop the bag of apples, gravity is pulling it down with a certain amount of force. That amount of force is one kilogram-force. It's like the weight of the apples is pushing down with that much force.

So, when we talk about a kilogram-force, we're talking about how much force is needed to lift something that weighs one kilogram or how much force is pushing down on something that weighs one kilogram due to gravity.
