Kimberley points

Hello! Do you know what a point is? It's a sharp thing that could hurt you, like a needle or a pin. Kimberley points are kind of like big sharp points, but they're not for sewing or poking things.

A long, long time ago, people in Africa and Australia used to make these points out of stones. They would carefully shape the stones so they had a pointy end and a flat end. Then they would attach the flat end to a wooden stick, which made it easier to hold and use.

The people who made Kimberley points used a special technique to shape the stones. They would strike the stones with another hard object, like another stone or a piece of bone. This would make tiny chips of rock come off, and over time they could shape the stone into a point. It was kind of like sculpture!

Once the point was finished, the people could use it for many things. They could use it to hunt animals for food, to cut things like rope or branches, or even to dig in the ground. It was a very useful tool for survival.

People don't make Kimberley points out of stone anymore, but they are still very interesting to learn about. They remind us of how smart and resourceful people can be, even without modern technology.
