Kithul treacle

Kithul treacle is a sweet and sticky syrup made from sap which comes from a special kind of tree called the Kithul tree that grows in Sri Lanka.

To get kithul treacle, you have to climb up the Kithul tree and make a small hole in the trunk to let the sap flow out. Then you put a special container below the hole to collect the sap.

The sap is very thin and watery at first, but if you heat it up slowly in a cooking pot over a fire, it becomes thick and syrupy. That's how kithul treacle is made!

People in Sri Lanka love to eat kithul treacle. They put it on their pancakes or mix it with their tea. It's a yummy treat that's all-natural and made straight from the tree!
