ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District

So, imagine you're in school and you learn about science. Scientists have lots of ideas about how things work, like how the Earth was made or how living things evolved over time.

But some people believe in something called "intelligent design." They think that a powerful being, like a god, created everything in a very special way.

Well, in Pennsylvania, some parents and teachers wanted to teach intelligent design in science class. They wanted to say that it was just as important as what scientists were saying.

But a bunch of other parents and teachers said that teaching intelligent design wasn't really science. It didn't have any evidence to support it, so it shouldn't be taught in science class.

This argument went all the way to court. The judge listened to lots of experts and decided that intelligent design wasn't science. It was more like a religious belief. So, the judge said it wasn't okay to teach it in science class.

The court case was called Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District. And it helped to make sure that science class stayed focused on science, not religion.
