ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Koch curve

The Koch curve is a very special shape that you can create by following three simple rules:

1. Start with a straight line.
2. Divide the line into three equal parts.
3. Remove the middle third of the line and replace it with two new lines that form an equilateral triangle.

Then, for each of the new lines you created in step 3, repeat the same process over and over again - dividing the line into three parts, removing the middle part, and replacing it with a triangle. Keep doing this over and over again, and the shape will start to look more and more like the Koch curve!

What makes the Koch curve so special is that it is what's called a fractal. Fractals are shapes that look the same no matter how close or far away you look at them. So, no matter how many times you zoom in on the Koch curve, you will always see the same pattern of triangles and straight lines repeating over and over again.

Isn't that neat? With just three easy rules, you can create a really cool shape that always looks the same no matter how much you zoom in!
