Kollam era

Kollam Era (also known as Kollam Systyles) is a system used by people in the southwestern state of Kerala, India in ancient times to tell when something happened. It dates back to 825 AD, when Kollam (a city in Kerala) became the capital of the state. This system gave each year a number, which began with 825 AD ( the year Kollam became the capital) and went up every year after that. The year is calculated based on the solar cycle, which is why it is known as the 'solar era!' People in Kerala still use this system to reference when something happened in the past.
