Korochun

Korochun is a special holiday that some people celebrate in Russia and other nearby countries. It happens around the winter solstice, which is the time of year when there is the shortest amount of daylight and the longest amount of nighttime.

During Korochun, people used to have big feasts and parties with lots of food, singing, and dancing. They also believed that this was a special time when spirits and magical creatures were more powerful than usual, so they would make offerings to these spirits and ask for good luck and prosperity in the coming year.

One of the traditional activities during Korochun was called "scaring away the evil spirits." People would make a lot of noise, bang pots and pans together, and even shoot off guns to try to scare away any bad spirits that might be lurking around.

Overall, Korochun is a time when people come together to celebrate the changing of the seasons and to hope for good things in the new year.
