Kuni-yuzuri is a Japanese word that means "transfer of land ownership." It happened a long, long time ago when Japan didn't have an emperor yet.
Back then, different tribes were fighting over who would be the leader of Japan. One of the most powerful tribes was the Yamato tribe. They won and their leader became the first emperor of Japan.
But the other tribes didn't just disappear. The Yamato tribe knew they needed to make peace with them to prevent more fighting. So they came up with a plan called kuni-yuzuri.
Kuni-yuzuri means that the Yamato tribe gave land and authority to the other tribes. This made them happy and peaceful because they felt important and valued.
The Yamato tribe also gave the other tribes valuable objects that symbolize power like a sword, a mirror, and a jewel. These objects are known as the Three Sacred Treasures of Japan and they are still super important today.
Kuni-yuzuri was a very significant event in Japanese history because it helped create a unified Japan. Without it, there might still be fighting between the different tribes today.
