ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Kyūdō

Kyudo is a Japanese way of shooting arrows with a bow. Imagine a big stick, called a bow, and a pointy stick called an arrow. A person using kyudo stands very still and very straight, like a statue. They hold the bow up with one hand and use the other hand to pull the string back. Then, they aim the arrow with their eyes and release the string. The arrow flies through the air and hopefully hits the target.

Kyudo is not just about hitting the target, though. It is also about being calm and patient. The person using kyudo has to be very focused and calm. They take their time and breathe deeply before shooting. They also have to be respectful and understand the traditions of kyudo. People who use kyudo say that it helps them be more peaceful and mindful. It is not just a sport or a hobby, but a way of life.
