LGBT in New Zealand

Okay kiddo, so in New Zealand, some people feel like they are not a boy or a girl, or they might feel like they like other people who are the same gender as them. And that's totally okay! Those people are part of what we call the LGBT community.

LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender. "Lesbian" means a girl who likes other girls, "Gay" means a boy who likes other boys, "Bisexual" means someone who likes both boys and girls, and "Transgender" means someone who feels like they were born in the wrong body and might want to change to become a different gender.

In New Zealand, we have laws that protect LGBT people from being discriminated against. That means that no one can treat them badly just because they are part of the LGBT community. We also have laws that mean anyone can get married, no matter what gender they are, so a boy can marry another boy, or a girl can marry another girl.

There are also groups and organisations in New Zealand that support and help people who are part of the LGBT community. They might organise events or meetings, or just be a place where people can go to talk to someone who understands how they feel.

So, in New Zealand, we believe that everyone should be treated fairly and equally, no matter who they like or what gender they are. And that's why we have laws to protect and support the LGBT community.
