LGBT people in prison

LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people in prison are people who identify as being LGBT and are in prison. LGBT people in prison face more challenges than other prisoners because they are more likely to be targeted by other inmates and prison staff. They also face higher rates of violence, mistreatment and discrimination, which can lead to more psychological distress. LGBT people in prison often don't get access to the same resources and services other prisoners get, like mental health care, that may help them cope with their experiences in prison.
