ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

LGBT-affirming religious groups

Alright kiddo, so you know how some people like boys and some people like girls, right? And some people feel like they're really a boy even though they were born with a girl body, or they feel like they're really a girl even though they were born with a boy body?

Well, some people also like people of the same gender, or they don't feel like they fit into a strictly male or female category. This can make them feel different or even alone, but there are some religious groups who want to make sure these people feel welcome and loved in their communities.

These groups, called "LGBT-affirming" or "LGBT-inclusive" religious groups, believe that everyone is valuable and loved in the eyes of their loving God, no matter who they love or how they identify their gender. They want to make sure that everyone feels included, whether they're straight or queer, cisgender or transgender.

Sometimes, traditional religious teachings might not fully accept or understand LGBT people, but these groups want to change that. They might hold special services or events for LGBT folks, or they might even have LGBT people in leadership positions within the church. They want to show that faith and love can go hand-in-hand, no matter who you are or who you love.
