ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

LVM3

LVM3 (Logical Volume Manager version 3) is a super cool tool which helps manage lots of little computer storage spaces, called "logical volumes". Think of it like a big container made of Legos (your hard drive) where you can add and remove smaller Legos (logical volumes) whenever you need.

Let's say you have a computer with a 1TB hard drive, but you want to organize your files into separate spaces, like one space for pictures and videos and another space for games and software. You can create two logical volumes, or Lego pieces, within your hard drive container - one with 500GB for pictures and videos, and another with 500GB for games and software.

Now, let's say you run out of space on your picture and video logical volume and want to add more. With LVM3, you can easily add another 100GB Lego piece to that logical volume, making it a 600GB space, without having to transfer or delete any files.

LVM3 also allows you to move these logical volumes around, like swapping the positions of the 500GB space for pictures and videos with the 500GB space for games and software, without needing to copy or move any data.

Overall, LVM3 is like having a bunch of Lego pieces in a big container that you can move around and add onto whenever you want, making it easy to manage your computer storage space without losing any data.
