Okay kiddo, Imagine a really long ladder. Now imagine that two people are holding onto the ladder at each end, and they are walking towards each other. But wait, there's more! Imagine that the ladder is also moving really fast, like on a fast train.
Now, let's say that you are watching these two people with the ladder from the side of the train tracks. From your viewpoint, you see that the ladder is shorter than it should be, because it is moving really fast. But wait, when the people on the train hold up the ladder you can see that the ladder is actually longer than it seemed!
This is the ladder paradox. The length of the ladder seems to be different depending on where you are standing and how fast you are moving. This is because of a principle called time dilation which means that time can move slower or faster depending on how fast you are moving. So even though the ladder is the same length, it can appear shorter or longer depending on how fast you are going.
Isn't that cool, kiddo?!
