Ladle (metallurgy)

A ladle in metallurgy is like a big spoon that is used to scoop out melted metal from one place and move it to another. It is like when mom uses a ladle to scoop soup out of a big pot and pour it into our bowls.

In metallurgy, the ladle is used to move melted metal from a big furnace called a smelter into a big container called a mold. The mold is the shape that the metal will cool and harden into.

The ladle has a long handle to keep the person using it safe from the very hot metal. The inside of the ladle is also lined with special material that can handle the high temperatures of the melted metal.

After the metal is poured into the mold, the ladle is used to scrape any leftover metal off the sides of the mold to make sure it all goes into the mold.
