ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lakshmi Tatma

Lakshmi Tatma was a little girl from India who was born with a rare condition called parasitic twinning. This means that she had a conjoined twin attached to her pelvis. It was like having another body attached to hers, with its own head, arms, and legs.

Doctors were worried about Lakshmi's health because the twin was taking blood from Lakshmi's body, which was making her very weak. So, they decided to do surgery to separate the twins.

The surgery was very complicated because the twin shared some of Lakshmi's organs, like her bladder, and they had to make sure that both girls would still be able to function after the surgery. But, thanks to the skilled doctors and nurses who worked on her, Lakshmi was successfully separated from her twin.

After the surgery, Lakshmi had to go through a lot of physical therapy to learn how to use her new body. But, she was a strong and brave little girl, and she worked hard to recover. Today, Lakshmi is a healthy and happy little girl who loves to play with her friends and family.
