Okay, so imagine you have a lamp, like the one you have in your bedroom. It has a cord that you use to turn it on and off. Now, you might think that the cord is just a simple wire that carries electricity from the wall to the lamp, but there's actually a nifty trick you can do with it.
You see, the cord is made up of two wires, not just one. One of these wires is called the "hot" wire, and the other is the "neutral" wire. When you plug the lamp into the wall, the hot wire carries electricity to the lamp, and the neutral wire carries electricity back to the wall. This is what allows the lamp to turn on and light up your room.
But here's the trick: if you take a closer look at the cord, you'll notice that the two wires are different colors. The hot wire is usually black or red, and the neutral wire is usually white. So what you can do is take a pair of scissors (with your parents' permission, of course) and cut the cord in the middle.
Now, you should have two separate ends of the cord, each with a hot wire and a neutral wire. Take the two hot wires and twist them together, so they're touching. Then, take the two neutral wires and twist them together as well. Now, if you plug the lamp back into the wall and turn it on, it should light up... even though the cord has been cut in half!
How is this possible? Well, it's because the electricity is still able to flow from the wall to the lamp, even though the cord has been cut. The hot wire carries the electricity to the lamp, and then it flows back to the wall through the neutral wire. By twisting the wires together, you're essentially creating a shortcut for the electricity to flow through.
Of course, you shouldn't try this trick at home unless you have your parents' supervision and you know what you're doing. Playing with electricity can be dangerous, so always be careful and follow proper safety precautions!
