Landfill diversion

Landfill diversion means that instead of throwing things in the trash that will end up in a landfill (which is a big hole where garbage goes), we are finding other ways to get rid of them that are better for the environment.

For example, if we recycle or compost things like paper, plastic, food waste, and yard trimmings, we can keep them out of the landfill. When we recycle, we use these materials to make new things instead of just throwing them away. When we compost, we turn food and yard waste into a type of soil that can be used to help plants grow.

We can also divert items from the landfill by reusing them. For instance, instead of buying new things all of the time, we can reuse things we already have such as clothes, toys, and furniture. We can also donate things we don't need anymore to charity or sell them at a garage sale.

By diverting waste away from the landfill, we can reduce the amount of garbage that takes up space and creates pollution in the environment. It is important to find ways to divert waste because we only have a limited amount of space for landfills and we need to take care of our planet for generations to come.
