ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Landing zone

Okay kiddo, so you know when you play catch with a ball or a frisbee? You have to throw it to your friend and try to catch it when they throw it back to you. But what happens when you miss the throw or the catch? The ball or frisbee can fall on the ground and bounce around or even break something.

Now imagine a big plane flying in the sky. When it needs to land, it has to find a safe place where it won't crash or hurt anyone or anything on the ground. That safe place is called a landing zone. It's usually a long and flat stretch of ground where the plane can slowly come down and land smoothly without any problems.

Think of it like a big playground for the airplanes. Just like how you have to be careful when playing catch, the pilots have to be very careful when landing the plane in the landing zone. They have to make sure the weather is good, the ground is clear, and they follow all the rules to land safely.

So, a landing zone is simply a safe and designated area where planes can land and take off without any accidents or harm. Pretty cool, huh?
