ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Large-scale brain network

Okay kiddo, imagine your brain is like a big city with lots of parts that help you do different things, like see, hear, learn, and play. But imagine all those parts are like neighborhoods, and they need to work together to get things done.

A large-scale brain network is like a big map of how all those neighborhoods talk to each other and work together. You see, your brain isn't just one big thing doing everything on its own. Different parts of your brain have to talk to each other to help you do things like remember things, solve problems, and even just think.

Scientists use big machines called MRI machines to look at your brain and see how all those neighborhoods are working together. They can see which parts of your brain are talking to each other and which parts aren't.

So imagine your brain is like a big puzzle, and scientists are trying to figure out how all the puzzle pieces fit together to make you who you are. A large-scale brain network is like a map showing all the different paths and connections those puzzle pieces make.

Does that make sense, kiddo?
