ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lateral motion device

Have you ever seen a toy car that can move sideways as well as forwards and backwards? A lateral motion device is just like that, but it's for bigger things like boats and airplanes! It helps them move from side to side, like a crab does when it's walking.

The way it works is that the device has special fins or propellers that can push the boat or airplane to the left or right instead of just forward. This is really helpful when you're trying to maneuver in tight spaces, like when you're docking a boat at a marina.

Think of it like when you're walking and you want to turn a corner. You don't just go straight ahead, you have to turn your body to the left or right to change direction. The lateral motion device helps boats and airplanes do the same thing - instead of just going straight ahead, they can turn to the side too!
