ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Latinism

Latinism is when we use words or phrases in Latin in everyday English. Latin is an old language that was spoken a very long time ago in ancient Rome. Some people like to use Latin in English because it sounds important and fancy. For example, you might have heard the Latin phrase "carpe diem," which means "seize the day." Another Latin word that's used a lot is "et cetera," which means "and so on." Sometimes people use Latin words in important places, like in schools or in scientific research. But don't worry if you don't know all the Latin words - you can always ask someone to explain them to you!
