ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Laundry

Ok kiddo, so you know how we wear clothes like your favorite t-shirt or your cozy pajamas? Well, after we wear them for a while, they get dirty and need to be cleaned. That's where laundry comes in!

Laundry means washing our clothes to get them clean again. We usually use a machine called a washing machine to help us with this.

First, we need to sort our clothes. That means putting similar clothes together like all the shirts in one pile, all the pants in another pile, and so on. Then, we need to check the care labels on our clothes to see how to wash them. Some clothes need to be washed in cold water, some in warm water, and some in hot water.

After we fill the washing machine with our sorted clothes and add some laundry detergent, we turn it on and let it do its thing. The washing machine will spin the clothes around in the water to remove any dirt or stains.

Once the machine is done, we take the clothes out and put them in the dryer. The dryer is like a big, warm box that blows hot air on the clothes to dry them. Some clothes can't go in the dryer though, like your swimsuit or your mom's fancy dress, and need to be hung up to dry instead.

And that's it! Laundry helps us keep our clothes clean and ready to wear again.
