ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Laureate

A laureate is a person who has been rewarded or honored for their talents or achievements. It's like when you did really well in school and your teacher gave you a gold star or a certificate to show how proud they were of you. In some cases, laureates are given a special title or award, like the Nobel Prize or the Pulitzer Prize, which means they are the best at what they do. So, a laureate could be a writer who wins a big award for their books, a scientist who discovers something really important, or an artist who makes beautiful things that lots of people love. They are special people who are recognized for being really good at something.
