Law French

Law French is a special way of speaking and writing in the law world that people used a really long time ago in places like England and Canada. It's like a secret code that people who studied law used to talk to each other so that regular people couldn't understand what they were saying.

It all started because way back then, the important people who made the laws and decided how to punish people spoke French instead of English. So when people started studying law, they had to learn French to understand what was going on. That's why a lot of legal terms and phrases still sound French today even though they are used in English-speaking countries.

Nowadays, Law French isn't really used anymore but people still learn some of the old Law French terms because they are part of the legal history and culture. It's like learning about dinosaurs or how people used to live a long time ago.
