ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lection

A lection is basically a reading from a holy book, like the Bible or the Quran, during a religious service. The person who reads the lection is usually called the reader or the lector.

In some religious traditions, the lection is carefully chosen to reflect the theme or message of the day's service. For example, if the service is about forgiveness, the lection chosen might be a story about forgiveness from the Bible.

When the lector stands up to read the lection, everyone else in the service usually listens carefully and respectfully. Sometimes, people even stand up as a sign of respect when the lection is being read.

Overall, the lection is an important part of many religious services and helps people connect with their faith on a deeper level.
