ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Legal assessments of the Gaza flotilla raid

Okay kiddo, so one time there was a big event where some ships were going to Gaza. Gaza is a place where lots of people live, and they need things like food and medicine to survive. But some other people who were in charge of the place didn't want the ships to come, so they sent some soldiers to stop them.

But things got really messy and people got hurt. Some people said the soldiers did things that were really wrong, like hurting people who were just trying to help others. And other people said the soldiers were just trying to do their job and keep everyone safe.

So the grown-up people who make the rules and decide what's right or wrong had to look at all the evidence and figure out who was right. They talked to lots of people who were there, and they looked at videos and pictures and written reports.

In the end, the grown-up people said that the soldiers did some things that weren't okay, like using too much force when they didn't need to. But they also said that the people on the ships were trying to break the rules, and the soldiers were trying to do their job.

So it's kind of like when you and your sibling get in trouble for fighting. Maybe you both did some things that weren't okay, but maybe one of you was being meaner than the other. And the grown-ups have to figure out what happened and make things fair.
