ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Legal research

Legal research is when people try to find the rules that they need to follow when things happen in the world. It's like looking for clues to solve a puzzle. You know how you have to follow rules, like not hitting someone or sharing toys? Well, adults have rules too, called laws.

When a grown-up wants to know what the rules are, they do legal research. They go to the library or use the internet to look at books and articles written by legal experts. They also look at cases, which are stories about things that happened in real life where the law was used to decide what was right or wrong.

Legal research helps people figure out what they can and cannot do in certain situations. For example, a lawyer doing legal research might look up what the legal consequences are for stealing someone else's toy. It's important to do legal research so that everyone knows what the rules are and can follow them.
