ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Leitmotif

Okay kiddo, so you know how in some movies or TV shows, there is a special song or tune that plays whenever a certain character comes on screen or when something important is happening? This special song or tune is called a leitmotif.

A leitmotif is like a musical phrase that is used to represent a particular character, place, or idea. It helps the audience to understand what is going on in the story without having to say it out loud.

For example, in the movie "Star Wars," the theme song that plays whenever Darth Vader shows up is a leitmotif. It helps us to know that Darth Vader is a bad guy and something important is going to happen when he's around.

Does that make sense, little one?
