ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Letdown station

Okay kiddo, so let's imagine that you are a baby and your mommy is breastfeeding you. When your mommy's breast is full of milk, she has to let the milk come out so that you can drink it. The letdown station is the place in the mommy's body where this happens.

Inside the mommy's breast, there are tiny milk glands that make the milk. When you start to breastfeed and suck on your mommy's nipple, your sucking signals the letdown station to release the milk. It's like a switch that turns on and the milk starts flowing out of the mommy's nipple.

Sometimes, if your mommy is feeling stressed or anxious, it can be hard for the letdown station to work properly. But when everything is calm and relaxed, the letdown station works like magic to give you the milk you need to grow strong and healthy.
