ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program

Okay kiddo, so there is this program called the Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program. It's like a group of people who work together to find out about old boats and ships from a very long time ago.

So you know how boats and ships are used to travel on water, right? And over time, they can get really old and people don't use them anymore? Well, the people in this program want to find these old and sunken boats and learn more about them!

They use a lot of fancy tools and equipment to carefully explore the water where the sunken boats are. They might use things like underwater cameras, robots, or even scuba divers to get an up-close look at the boats.

Once they find a sunken boat, they take lots of pictures and carefully study the things they find. Sometimes they even bring pieces of the boat back up to the surface to examine them more closely.

Through all of this exploring and studying, the people in the Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program can learn a lot about how people used to travel and what kind of boats they used a long, long time ago! Pretty cool stuff, huh?
