ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lily

Lilies are pretty plants with big flowers that come in lots of different colors like pink, yellow, orange, white, and more. They grow from bulbs, which look like small onions, and can be planted in the ground or in pots with special soil.

When spring comes and the weather gets warmer, the bulbs start to grow roots and a stem. The stem grows tall with lots of leaves and then a flower bud pops up on top. The bud slowly opens up and reveals a big, beautiful flower with petals and a special part in the middle called a pistil.

Bees and other insects like to visit lilies because they can collect pollen from the pistil and help the lilies make new flowers. When the flower is done blooming and the petals start to fall off, a new seed pod starts to grow. The pod has lots of little seeds inside that can grow into new lilies when planted in the ground or in a pot.

Lilies also have special meanings in some cultures. They can represent things like purity, love, and friendship. People sometimes give lilies as gifts for special occasions like weddings or birthdays. Overall, lilies are beautiful plants that grow from bulbs and make pretty flowers that bees like to visit.
