Imagine you and your friend are standing really far apart from each other and you're talking to each other on the phone. When you talk, your voice travels as sound waves through the phone to your friend's ear. But sometimes, the sound waves from your voice bounce off of things like walls, buildings, or even your friend's own voice and create echoes.
The same thing can happen when we use things like microphones and speakers for phone calls or live events. Sometimes, the sound waves from what the speaker is saying bounce off the walls in the room or the objects around the microphone and create echoes.
When these echoes happen, they can create a pattern which looks like a wavy line on a graph. This is called a line echo wave pattern, and it helps us understand how sound travels and how to help reduce echo if it's causing an issue.
