ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Line infantry

Line infantry are soldiers who form a line with their weapons and stand in rows.

Think of it like a class picture at school. The teacher tells everyone to stand in a straight line and not move. The soldiers do the same thing but they have guns and weapons.

These soldiers are trained to walk in unison, shoot weapons and fight in battles while staying in a straight line. When they shoot their weapons, they shoot in the same direction and try to hit the other army.

The idea is that when they stand in a line, they are easier to control and easier to aim at the enemy.

Line infantry used to be really important in battles long ago, but now armies have changed how they fight.
